How it works

From first enquiry to lasting outcome

01

Find

Tell us your site, planning authority and unit requirement. We match you to the nearest suitable habitat bank — or our wider delivery capability.

02

Reserve

Confirm unit availability, habitat types and pricing, and reserve the units your scheme needs.

03

Secure

Units are allocated and secured against your development, with the documentation your local planning authority requires.

04

Steward

We create and manage the habitats for at least 30 years, with monitoring that evidences real ecological gain.

The basics

What is a habitat bank?

A habitat bank is an area of land where habitats are created or enhanced, then secured and managed for the long term to generate Biodiversity Net Gain units. Developers buy units to meet their BNG obligation; landowners earn a long-term return from managing land for nature.

Every live Biofarm habitat bank is a registered site, managed for at least 30 years, with ongoing ecological monitoring — and new sites in the pipeline join the register as they complete.

Developer FAQs

Does location matter for BNG units?

Yes. The biodiversity gain spatial risk multiplier means units delivered closer to your development — or within the same local planning authority or National Character Area — carry more value. Each bank shows the areas it can serve.

How long are the habitats managed?

Every Biofarm habitat bank is secured and managed for a minimum of 30 years, with monitoring to evidence progress over time.

How is availability and pricing confirmed?

Unit availability, habitat types and pricing are confirmed on enquiry for your specific requirement — get in touch and we’ll talk you through it.

What if you don’t have a bank near my site?

Our registered network is growing and our delivery reaches beyond it. If nothing serves your area today, we can source, create and manage a solution for your scheme.

Are the habitat banks registered?

Yes — our banks are registered habitat banks, giving developers and planners confidence in their integrity and longevity.

National by nature, local by design

Building where you’re building
